Leona Lewis Vocal Profile

Vocal Type: Lyric Soprano
Vocal Range: 3 octaves and 3 notes and one semitone ( C3 - F#6 )
Whistle Register: yes
Longest Note: 12 seconds ( Over The Rainbow Live )

Vocal Plusses: Nice timbre and tone. Leona has unique voice that made people easily recognize her voice. Her middle range belt ( C5 - D5 ) is solid and well resonate due to correct vocal placement. Leona is prominent falsetto users. She has a great and nice falsetto tone and often use falsetto in her vocal run and riff. Abilty to transcends smoothly from headvoice to whistle note without pausing while maintain its tonal quality. Her head voice is more brighter than her chest voice. Her whistle notes, ( Eb6 - F6 ) are well executes due to correct vocal support. Her breath support is great when she is singing in her comfort range. During that, she can easily jumps between register with ease while maintaining the tonal or texture of her voice. There are few singers that have nice, unique and well execute falsetto, Leona is one of them. If Whitney is well known for her operatic head voice, Leona is well known for her sweet sounds head voice. Leona's vocal tone and texture is more suitable for ballads especially for sad ballad songs. She has the emotion type of voice that people can easily capture the mood of the song when they first listen to it.

Vocal Negatives: Her low note seems like it doesn't exist, it is there but due to lack of breath support and wrong vocal placement her low notes are't well resonate. Her low notes tend to deminish if she executed it during chorus or in loud background music. Most of the times, she only hit low notes during the beginning of the song and during the condition where there is minimal background music is playing. Regarding her belted notes, notes above Eb5 aren't comfort notes for her. Her full rounded tonal qualities start to thin when she hit Eb5 and above. This is due to the high larynx. Proof: Look at her G5 notes, its not well resonate, thin and doesn't ring at all. Plus, she is often struggle to hit that note. For clear proof: Compare her performance of I'll Be There with Mariah version of I'll Be There. Focus on her F5 note. It is way very THIN and is not resonate unlike Mariah, which is more full, well rounded and well resonate and of course Mariah's F5 note ring perfectly compared to Leona.

Overall: Technically, her range is very limited. Her great voice area are ( A4 - D5 ) in chest voice and ( F5 - D6 ) in head voice. Her whistle range is very very limited ( Eb6 - F6 ). But it's still a good thing, because at least she posseses an upper register voice. If we judge her real range base on her great voice are, her range is limited and there are huge gap between registers. Overall, she is indeed one of todays greatest singers. Her technical ability might not perfect but it's not too bad also.
