Mariah Carey Vocal Profile
Mariah Carey
Vocal Type: Alto
Vocal Range: 5 octaves. G2- G7
Whistle register: Yes
Longest Note: 20 seconds - 'Lead The Way'
Vocal Pluses: Vocal dynamics is unbelievable: able to go from a crystal clear, high octave belt to an airy whisper within the space of a word and second. Has amazing low and high notes that are complimented by an uncanny ability to pitch an exact note without the need of vocal runs. When Vocal runs are utilised by the singer they are incredibly accurate and always sympathetic to the song's key signature, tempo and style, thus giving her the moniker the "Queen of melisma". Technically a brilliant singer.Always keep neutral larynx position when singing or belting or whistling. Able to access the Whistle register without the need of vocal run. Ability to transcend from chest voice to whistle register without pausing. The tone of her voice is very sweet and recognizable.
Vocal Negatives: Voice is very fragile due to nodules. Quality of voice keeps changing and related to amount of vocal rest and sleep she get. Upper belting register become strained when voice is not well rested.
Just a lil fyi, her lowest note recorded was E2 ;)
