Best Selling Album By Female Artist In 2011
It was the year of the British singer / songwriter Adele: her album '21' was a big surprise and a huge commercial success with sales of 15.3 million copies so far. Quite possible that's the first time ever, that an album of the year sold nearly three times more than the nearest competitor, in this case Lady GaGa's 'Born This Way', which sold 5.4 million.
This might be a huge slap on Gaga, as she claimed that 'Born This Way' already sold more than 8 million copies worldwide.
So far, '21' already sold more than 5 million copies in US, while 'Born This Way' recently crossed the 2 million sales mark in US. Furthermore, Adele's debut album '19' sold more than 2.8 million, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, her debut album is gaining attention among her new fans.
However, the record breaking Katy Perry only sold two million copies despite having 5 number one hits on Billboard Hot 100. Its looks like the public views Katy as a single artist.
Last but not least, Beyonce fourth studio album only sold around two milion copies, despite the fact that she had released four singles and two promotional singles.
TheDivaJuice: Shoot, I love Britney's Femme Fatale, I even bought the iTUNES LP version of Femme Fatale. For me it is a GREAT album, Her BEST so far. But her sales is quite low. Even lower than Blackout. Way to go for Gaga's The Fame/Monster. Love that album.
